Free Reiki Event at Gilda’s Club WNY

The Reiki Teaching Institute is pleased to announce that Reiki master teacher Grace Friel will be giving a free Reiki talk and demonstration at Gilda’s Club WNY on Tuesday, August 10th, 2010 at 12:30pm. This free event will include an introduction to Reiki, a guided Reiki demonstration, and time for discussion and sharing.

Cancer made me a member of an elite club I preferred not to belong to.

~ Gilda Radner, an original cast member of Saturday Night Live

Gilda Radner’s Legacy was in part to create Gilda’s Club with the mission “to create welcoming communities of free support for everyone living with cancer – men, women, teens and children – along with their families and friends. Our innovative program is an essential complement to medical care, providing networking and support groups, workshops, education and social activities.”

There are many stories by people living with cancer about how Reiki has helped them and their families cope. Additionally, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) recognizes Reiki as a useful therapy for patients and families.

From the NIH website: “According to the 2007 National Health Interview Survey, which included a comprehensive survey of CAM use by Americans, more than 1.2 million adults had used an energy healing therapy, such as Reiki, in the previous year. The survey also found that approximately 161,000 children had used an energy healing therapy in the previous year. People use Reiki for relaxation, stress reduction, and symptom relief, in efforts to improve overall health and well-being. Reiki has been used by people with anxiety, chronic pain, HIV/AIDS, and other health conditions, as well as by people recovering from surgery or experiencing side effects from cancer treatments. Reiki has also been given to people who are dying (and to their families and caregivers) to help impart a sense of peace.”

We are grateful for the opportunity to be of service to the folks at Gilda’s Club WNY. If you are curious about Reiki for yourself or a loved one we invite you to peruse our website and contact us with questions. To learn more about Gilda’s Club WNY visit www.gildasclubwny.org or call 332-5900.
